Judith Filler Bright Memorial Fund sponsors awards program
The Judith Filler Bright Memorial Fund was established by the family of the late Judy Filler Bright ’54 to honor her and celebrate the fact that she and many of her family members made lasting friendships at Altoona High School.
Judy had a lifelong interest in the school and the impressive achievements of many of its alumni, and she was eager to encourage reunions and other gatherings which brought former Altoona students together.
The Judith Filler Bright Memorial Fund helps to defray costs of the Altoona Area High School Distinguished Alumni Program which recognizes those who have excelled in their professions and in service to their communities.
The fund honors Judy and her many beloved relatives who attended Altoona High School, including her late brother, Merl C. “Bud” Filler, Jr. ’52 (the founder of the Filler-King Co. in McCall, Idaho), her parents, Merl C. Filler ’30 and Gwendolyn J. Ruggles (Filler) ’29, her maternal uncles Theodore V. Ruggles ’26, and Leodore “Lee” H. Ruggles, her paternal aunts Pauline J. Filler (Hoag) ’28, Betty Filler (Furrer) ’39 and Edith “Eadie” Filler (Rowland).
The fund also celebrates Judy’s classmate and lifelong best friend, Carol McGirk (Riley) ’54.
