Hollidaysburg Class of 1959 to meet

Members of the Hollidaysburg High School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, June 18, in the reserved room at The Dream, 1500 Allegheny St. Classmates and guests are welcome.

Altoona Class of 1964 to meet for lunch

The Altoona High School Class of 1964 meets for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month.

This month’s meeting is June 18 at Zach’s Sports & Spirits, 5828 Sixth Ave., Altoona.

Homers Gap Civics plan dinner

Homers Gap Civic Association, 135 Preston Lane, will hold a hot dog and sauerkraut dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 17. Cost is $12, which includes a hot dog, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, baked beans, applesauce and a cookie.

Genealogical society to host speaker

The Blair County Genealogical Society will meet at

7 p.m. Thursday, June 18, at 431 Scotch Valley Road, Hollidaysburg.

Harriet Gaston, an academic adviser at Penn State Altoona, will present “Freedom Fighters: Black Loyalists and Black Patriots.”

The program will explore the experiences of African Americans during the American Revolution, highlighting the stories of both Black Loyalists who supported the British Crown and Black Patriots who fought for the cause of American independence.

Hymn sing to be held June 29

The Presbyterian Home at Hollidaysburg will hold a hymn sing starting at 6 p.m. Monday, June 29, at the gazebo at the corner of Newry and Beaver streets in Hollidaysburg.

Nancy McClelland will play the keyboard and lead the participants. The public is invited. Take a chair to “Gather at the Gazebo.” In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.

Vendors invited for Community Day

The Juniata Civic Association will host Community Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at the Juniataa Pavilion, 206 W. 12th Ave.

Contra dance to be held June 20

The State College Friends School will co-host a family-friendly contra dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday,

June 20, at the school, 1900 University Drive, State College.

Lessons for new dancers begin at 6 p.m.

All dances are taught and easy to learn.

Terry Bachmann will call the dances to music by Unbowed. Suggested donation is $15 to help cover the cost of the caller and musicians, and refreshments will be available.
