Mosites Construction Co. of Pittsburgh was building a 350-foot retaining wall along Mill Run near Union Avenue, part of the TOPICS program which stood for Traffic Operational Program to Increase Capacity and Safety.

Penn State Professor Charles Strauss said that a study he did showed that last year’s Tour de ‘Toona cycled about $1.8 million into the local economy, while Tour organizer Kirk Leidy said it was more like $4 million, citing a Southern Alleghenies study.

After an absence of 36 years (1978), the 95th annual Central Pennsylvania Bible Conference was to be held at the Casino at Lakemont Park, where it had originated in 1920. Pastor Gary Dunn was president of the organizing committee.
