AAHS Alumni Band Day set for Sept. 4

The Altoona Area High School Alumni Association will host an AAHS Alumni Band Day on Friday,

Sept. 4, when the Mountain Lions take on Central Dauphin at Mansion Park Stadium.

This will also be the Mountain Lions’ Altoona Football League Night, recognizing the upcoming future grid stars and their coaches.

The AAHS Alumni Association extends as special welcome to new AAHS Band Director, Brandon Kunder, as he conducts his first official Alumni Band Day event.

Registration can be made at www.aahsalumni.org or by stopping in the AAHS Alumni Association Office at 1201 Eighth Ave., Altoona. Registration includes a maroon Alumni Band commemorative T-shirt and a buffet dinner. Instruments are available upon request. All former band members, majorettes, color guard and silk corps members are invited. Registration is $30 for AAHS Alumni Association members and $35 for nonmembers.

Ballroom dance to be held July 12

A ballroom dinner-dance will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Lambert Hall, Bellefonte.

The cost is $10.

Morrisons Cove class of 1960 to meet

The Morrisons Cove High School class of 1960 will meet at noon Wednesday, July 8, at The Bistro at the Village of Morrisons Cove.

Spouses and friends are welcome.

Penn Association awards scholarship

Each year, the William Penn Association, Branch 800, provides a financial award to the graduating male senior from Bishop Guilfoyle Academy who attained the highest grade point average in religion classes over the past four years.

The 2026 recipient is John “Jack” Compton, son of Michael and Dorothy Compton, Altoona. He will attend Mount Aloysius College, Cresson, in the fall.

The annual branch picnic will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Highland Park. Cost is $6 per person. There is no charge for individuals 12 and younger.

The catered event will include hot dogs, baked beans, tomatoes, corn on the cob, dessert and beverage. All members and guests are welcome. Reservations must be made by calling Dennis Greiner at 814-943-7471 no later than July 24.

The WPA is a fraternal organization with headquarters in Pittsburgh and branches throughout the United States.
