Cresson Public Library sets programs for July
Cresson Public Library has scheduled its programs for July.
The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4, for Independence Day.
n Pop-Up Craft Days: On Tuesdays, July 7 and 21, children can stop by the library to make summer DIY crafts. All materials and instructions are provided on the table in the children’s section.
n Story time and activity hour: Story time will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturdays.
n America: 250 Years and Counting: Join Denise Holladay Damico, professor of history and chair of the history and political science department at Saint Francis University, Loretto, for some cool America 250 anecdotes, information revolutions, learning from the past, and where we go from here. The event takes place at noon Saturday, July 11, at the library. Note: Leave time to find parking due to the arrival of the steam train, Big Boy, and town festivities.
n The Office of Vocational Rehabilitation will be helping those with disabilities find or improve their employment. This is for teens through senior citizens. OVR can help with things such as GED, hearing aid, prison release plus disability, ADHD, stutter, Raynaud’s, autoimmune, temporarily disabled due to an accident or chemo, physical disabilities, wheelchair, adaptations to help you keep working, etc. Meet John and Lana from OVR, from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 14, at the library.
n Read with The Saurus: Read with a dinosaur during this special interactive story time for children up to age 8 from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 15. The Saurus will be here to give out her eggs to participants (each egg contains a small dinosaur).
n Pawsome Reading Program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 18. Therapy dog handlers will read a story, then therapy dogs will listen to children read stories to them. Even if your child cannot read yet, your child can look through a picture book and use his/her imagination to make up a story to tell the dog. Preregistration is required to schedule 15 to 20 minutes of your child reading one-on-one to the dog. Call the library at 814-886-2619 to schedule a time.
n Local and American History Trivia will be held at noon Saturday, July 18, at the library. Join teacher and historian from the Cresson Historical Society, Tyler Moudry, for this family-friendly edition of History Trivia. Test how well you know local and American history — and celebrate America 250.
n Story Stitchers Sewing Club will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 (on the fourth Wednesday of the month). Anyone who can thread a needle can participate. Call the library at 814-886-2619 for information on past or present projects.
