Gary Wayne John
July 26, 1947 – June 12, 2026
John
Gary Wayne John, 78, of Huntingdon, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2026, at his home. Born in Altoona, he was a son of the late Richard and Magdalene (Kuhn) John.
A jack of many trades, Gary worked for years as a construction designer and builder, and later turned his love of cooking into a career, running a popular barbecue business and a Texas hot dog stand before cooking at several area restaurants, most recently the Village Tavern in Huntingdon.
Gary was a U.S. Army veteran and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a longtime member of Stoney Lonesome Camp, the Huntingdon Moose and the Huntingdon VFW. More than anything, he was his family’s biggest fan, generous with his time and always rooting for the people he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Deb John; his son, Travis John, and wife, Tonya; his daughters, Christin Atkins and husband, Dave, and Nichole Chamberlain; his brother, Rick John; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lacey John; and his sister, Colleen John.
A celebration of his life will be planned at a later date.
Arrangements are by Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon.
