Celebration service

A special worship service centered on faith, gratitude and prayer for our nation will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 5, at The Well Ministry Center, 605 Burns Ave., Altoona.

Night of worship planned

Holy Spirit Ministry will host a night of worship at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at St. Michael Church, Hollidaysburg. Jo-Ann Semko will be the speaker on “I Am.” Semko is the diocesan director of schools and director of the diocesan Cursillo Movement.

Praise and worship will be led by the worship team. A prayer ministry will be held after the talk.

Ox roast drive-thru set

Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St., Hollidaysburg,will host an ox roast drive-thru from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9. The $12 meal includes an ox roast sandwich, homemade gob, chips and a drink.

Proceeds will support the goal of improved accessibility to the church. Call 814-695-0072 for more information.

Subs, pizza fundraiser

Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is hosting a Marianna’s subs and pizza fundraiser to benefit the church’s food pantry. Orders are due Tuesday, July 5.

Pickup/delivery of orders will be Wednesday, July 15, at the church; hours to be announced.

Food pantry available

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays, July 10 and July 24, by appointment only. Call Deb by Thursday at 814-207-8293.

Free lunch

A free lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue. The meal includes hot dogs, baked beans and watermelon.

Annual picnic planned

Altoona Restoration Church of God will be holding its annual picnic at Legion Park, Hollidaysburg on Sunday July 12th at 11:00 am. The picnic is open to everyone. Come for a fun afternoon of great food, white elephant auction (no joke gifts), raffle baskets, door prizes and family fellowship. The church will be providing hamburgers, hot dogs, sides, desserts and drinks. The blind auction has wrapped items marked for family, male, female, child, etc. In the family items, there are two sets of four Curve tickets with a parking pass. In the basket raffle, there will be gift cards, DelGrosso Buddy Bucks cards and many more themed baskets. All are welcome.

Carnival set

Fourth Street Church of God will hold a carnival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18, instead of the regular Saturday meal. There will be food, games and more.

Juniata Jubilee

Juniata United Methodist Church will host Juniata Jubilee, a free community festival open to all Juniata neighborhood residents, from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 19. The event will be held behind the church along Eighth Avenue between North Fourth and North Fifth streets, which will be closed to traffic for the evening.

Juniata Jubilee is designed as a neighborhood event first — a chance for residents to gather, share a meal, and enjoy an evening together.

Food and children’s activities will be provided at no cost. Organizers are also planning to bring food trucks to the festival; those vendors will charge their standard prices. No registration is required to attend.

Three neighboring congregations have already joined as participating partners — First UMC

Jaggard, Holy Rosary, and Overflow Church — and conversations with additional churches in the area are ongoing.

Rainforest Falls Bible school

Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church invites children entering Pre-K through sixth grade to experience Rainforest Falls VBS: Exploring the Nature of God, taking place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 20, through Thursday, July 23.

Throughout the week, children will journey deep into the rainforest as they discover God’s amazing love and faithfulness through exciting Bible stories, uplifting music, hands-on crafts, engaging games, snacks and interactive activities. Each night is filled with opportunities to make new friends, grow in faith, and create lasting memories in a safe, welcoming, and fun-filled environment.

“Rainforest Falls” is designed to help children explore God’s character while experiencing the wonder of His creation.

Vacation Bible School is free to attend.

Vacation Bible school offered

“Road Trip — On the Go with God” vacation Bible school will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 13-17 at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 5715 Roselawn Ave., Altoona. Activities will remind us that God is always with us wherever we go and whatever we do. “Travelers” will sing along with music videos, hear Bible stories, make crafts, engage in science activities, play games, and enjoy snack time as they journey with Scout, the mascot and the navigator, on their road trip adventures. Children aged 3 through 12 are invited to attend. Pre-registration is encouraged by calling the church office at 814-942-5586 or through the church’s Facebook page.

Clothing, food donations sought

Donations of clothing and non-perishable foods will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St. (Route 36). The church parking lot will serve as a collection site for the American Rescue Workers.

DELC partners on karate lessons

Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church has partnered with Champion Martial Arts and Master Gates to offer affordable karate instruction to the local youth community.

The new program offers participants the opportunity to develop confidence, discipline, physical fitness and self-defense skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. Classes are held at DELC and are open to area youth interested in learning martial arts regardless of experience level.

Classes meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Mondays and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Cost is $5 per session.

“This program aligns with our commitment to serving our neighbors and creating opportunities for our area youth to connect and thrive,” said Derek Detrich of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church.
