Hannah Owulade won two more individual District 6 championships on the second day of the District 6 Class 3A track and field meet at Mansion Park after capturing the triple jump title on Tuesday.
But the biggest thing on her mind was the Lady Lions beating State College for the team championship.
Thanks in large part to her three first-place finishes and a third-place, Altoona bested its rival, 222-205, on a day that started with more than an hour weather delay.
“The scores are always going to be close between us and State College, and I really wanted to get a lot of points and help our team,” Owulade said. “I feel good, but I still want to improve at states. Overall, I did what I had to do and got (Altoona) as many points as I could.”
Owulade won the 100 hurdles in 15.01 seconds and won the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 9.75 inches. She placed third in the 300 hurdles, which was won by teammate Ajaycia Alexander in 45.9 seconds.

“I just started doing hurdles this year, so I’m really proud of myself,” Alexander said. “I had to learn to glide over the hurdles instead of just jumping over them. Getting here took a lot of conditioning to get to this point. It took me three meets or so to really get good times.”
Annalyse Yost and Ashlyn Noce also won individual championships to help Altoona.
Yost repeated as the javelin champion with a throw of 123 feet, 11 inches.
“Seniors have a lot of pressure,” Yost said. “We want to show good leadership to the underclassmen, but it is very stressful. I have college coming up, and I want to show the college coaches they made the right decision too and picked the right person. I’m glad I could keep the streak of winning district titles going.”
Noce won the 3200-meter run in 10:59.26.

“I felt pretty good about it,” Noce said. “Coming off my other races, I felt pretty tired, but I was just happy to get back into a longer race and into my area of racing.”
The Altoona girls and the Hollidaysburg boys won the 400 relays to advance to the state meet and win district titles. The State College girls set the meet and Mansion Park record in the 1600 relay, but the Altoona girls managed to qualify for states by reaching the qualifying standard.
Despite finishing third, the Altoona girls 3200 relay team made it to states by reaching the qualifying standard with a time of 9:26.51 on a strong finishing push by Noce.
State College’s Sarah Kocher won the District 6 title in the 200 and broke Altoona’s Sophia O’Dea’s meet and facility record that she set a day before, but O’Dea’s second-place time of 25.41 was still good enough to punch her ticket to states through the qualifying time.
O’Dea also qualified for states in the 100 dash by hitting the state qualifying standard with a second-place time of 12.35 seconds. Hollidaysburg’s Jaclyn Sahlaney, who finished third behind O’Dea and winner Kocher of State College, also qualified for states due to her time of 12.39 seconds.
Altoona’s Kihlee Noel would have broken her second meet record in as many days, but she was outdone by State College’s Alyssa Lipski, who also broke the previous meet record with a throw of 132 feet, 3 inches to win the District 6 discus. Noel threw 129 feet, 3 inches and met the state qualifying standard to also advance to the PIAA meet.
Altoona had one boys champion — pole vaulter Collin Lutz.
Lutz won the vault by clearing 13 feet, 9 inches
“It took me three years to do it, but I’m glad to win,” Lutz said. “The delay was horrible. I sat in the locker room and got tight, and then I came out and tried to get loose, and it wasn’t good. I had done four warm-up jumps and then I had to sit around.”
Two Hollidaysburg boys also had an excellent day.
Braelyn Ross won the 110 hurdles in 15.3 seconds, and he also won the 300 hurdles in 39.48 seconds.
“It took a lot of work — working on the weekends when you don’t feel like getting out of bed, putting the work in those days pays off,” Ross said. “I was expecting to do well, but winning was great. The delay helped me get my mindset right.”
Ross won both hurdles despite a short turnaround.
“We put a lot of work into it throughout the season,” Ross said. “At the beginning of the season, it’s hard, but by the time we get to districts, it doesn’t really impact me as much. It feels really good to have two gold medals — I didn’t expect that before the season.”
Devin Walters won the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 10.25 inches. He also won the 200 dash in 21.92 seconds despite a State College runner catching him toward the end before he found an extra burst.
“I just have that natural top-end speed,” Walters said. “It’s a blessing. I felt them right behind me. I feel it. I hear it, and that’s my main motivation to keep pushing.”
Ross and Walters were also part of Hollidaysburg’s 400 relay title team.
“I did a couple run-throughs (in the long jump) and felt great, but I came back out after the hour delay and wasn’t feeling as good,” Walters said. “But I made it work. You have to do what it takes. It was stressful, but my coaches and teammates were there for me.”
