Coming off the best season in Bishop Guilfoyle Academy boys golf in school history, the Marauders will have a new coach.

Robby Okonak will take over for the Marauders this fall after A.J. Marasco led BG to a District 6 championship and its first PIAA Class 2A Western Regional title. Marasco had taken over for Mark Scalice, who coached the team for six years before he passed away in December of 2024.

“We are excited to name Robby Okonak as our next varsity head golf coach. Robby is an avid golfer with a sound knowledge of the game,” Bishop Guilfoyle athletic director A.J. Labriola said. “More than that, he is a fantastic role model for our student-athletes. He has served as a coach within our boys’ basketball program for the past few years and has a knack for coaching athletics in general. I am confident that Robby will continue to build upon the strong culture within the Bishop Guilfoyle golf program while inspiring our student-athletes to reach their full potential.”

Last year’s group of four star juniors — Aidan Sheehan, Grant Okonak, Troy Nachtman and Carter Boland should all be back for their senior year.

“The kids are definitely excited and have put in the work for sure,” Robby Okonak said. “They are pumped and excited to see that work come to fruition. Last year was unprecedented for the golf team. I think they want to build on it, and I guess it’s my job to provide direction to build on that success and see what they can do.”

Robby Okonak is also an assistant coach for the BG boys basketball team and will remain in that position.

“I love golf,” Okonak said. “Basketball is my first athletic passion, but I also love golf. For me, it’s really about the kids. What little part I have in it, I want to not only teach them golf but coaching youth sports and high school athletics as well, your job is to help the kids, on the boys side, to be young men through athletics, and I have a passion for that which is why when the opportunity presented itself, I took it.”

Coach Okonak expects BG to continue to field both a boys and girls golf team.

“The interest is definitely growing on both sides with boys and girls,” Okonak said.
