Class 3A tennis finals ready to go

Central Mountain High School senior David Lindsay will be trying to win his fourth District 4-6 Class 3A singles tennis championship today. Top-seeded Lindsay will face No. 2 seed Mark Sandow of State College at noon at Mansion Park in the finals after both won three matches on Tuesday. Lindsay topped Hollidaysburg’s Garrett Bouchard in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-0, and Sandow edged Hollidaysburg’s Ben Johnson, 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal matchup. The top two seeds — No. 1 Xane Whitesel of Juniata and No. 2 Nilesh Singh of Richland — advanced to the finals of the District 6 Class 2A Singles Tennis Tournament on Monday afternoon. Each won two matches at the Mansion Park courts. Whitesel beat Bishop McCort’s Cameron Smith, 6-1, 6-1, and Westmont Hilltop’s Sebastian Masterson, 6-1, 6-3, and Singh topped Maverick Fleck of Tyrone, 6-1, 6-1, and Easton Ragno of Westmont, 6-1, 6-3. Dragons win at Forest Hills

SIDMAN — Central captured the first two sets (25-23 and 25-13), lost the third (25-18) and then won the fourth (25-21) to claim a 3-1 win over Forest Hills Monday night in boys high school volleyball. Bryson Brooke led the Dragons with 14 kills and 14 digs, Christian Heuston tallied 11 kills, Hayden Smith had 10 kills. MILL HALL — The Altoona boys team won all three of its matches at the Central Mountain Tournament on Thursday in high school tennis action.
