Jaylen Brown’s time in Boston has come to a surprising end, with the Celtics deciding to trade him to one of their most storied rivals.

Brown — the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, a five-time All-Star and the league’s fourth-leading scorer this past season — is getting traded by the Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers, a person with knowledge of the deal’s terms said Wednesday.

Boston is getting Paul George, along with a slew of draft capital that could become two first-round picks and two second-round picks, said the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

ESPN first reported the trade agreement, and the terms were later confirmed by The Boston Globe.

Add this move to the list of blockbuster moves across the NBA so far this offseason. LeBron James is leaving the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent, and now this trade joins a long list of moves that involve All-Star-caliber players — like Giannis Antetokounmpo going from Milwaukee to Miami, Kawhi Leonard and Brandon Ingram headlining a swap between the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers, and Ja Morant getting traded to Portland by Memphis.

Get out of the Heat

MIAMI — Add Norman Powell to the list of this past season’s All-Stars who are changing addresses this summer in NBA free agency.

Powell, a member of the Miami Heat last season, has agreed to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $45 million with the Chicago Bulls, a person with knowledge of the talks said Wednesday.

ESPN and Chicago Sports Network were among those who first reported the agreement between Powell and the Bulls, who will hold a team option for 2027-28. Powell spent this past season in Miami, where he became an All-Star for the first time and averaged 21.7 points in 58 games with the Heat.

Busy Boston

BOSTON — The Celtics agreed to a $47.4 million, three-year deal with veteran center Mitchell Robinson, who is fresh off winning an NBA title with the New York Knicks, a person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal cannot be signed until July 6. The deal also includes a third-year player option.

The 7-foot Robinson has spent his entire eight-year career with the Knicks since being selected by them in the second round of the 2018 draft.

Robinson played a big role for New York during its championship run, averaging 4.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 13.9 minutes per game. In the regular season, he averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes per game in 60 appearances behind Karl-Anthony Towns.

The new Laker

Walker Kessler is being traded by the Utah Jazz to the Los Angeles Lakers, who will have the center under contract for the next four seasons and for a total of about $130 million, according to a person with knowledge of the agreement.

The Jazz are getting two first-round picks and two first-round pick swaps out of the deal, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press.

Acquiring Kessler is the first big move for the Lakers in their post-LeBron James era, after the NBA’s all-time leading scorer said Tuesday that he was leaving the team.
