CROMWELL, Conn. — Viktor Hovland needed only one hole to beat Scottie Scheffler in a playoff at the Travelers Championship.
They were tied Sunday night after Scheffler made a clutch 8-footer for par to force the extra holes, but it was too dark to keep going. Hovland hit his approach to 6 feet on the 18th in the playoff after Scheffler had stuffed his shot into 4 feet.
Hovland curled in his birdie putt. Scheffler missed on the high side of the cup. It’s Hovland’s first win since March 2025. Scheffler now has four runner-up finishes since he won to start the season. It was the first Monday finish on the PGA Tour since The Players Championship in 2025, which involved a three-hole aggregate playoff won by Rory McIlroy.
Lions cut ties with Arnold
The NFL’s Detroit Lions announced on Monday that they’ve released cornerback Terrion Arnold.
The announcement Monday came only days after Arnold’s arrest over allegations that he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men who prosecutors believe he wrongly suspected of having stolen luxury goods and $100,000 in cash from him.
The team made the announcement on the X social media platform. The team did not give a reason, but the announcement came the same day that a Florida judge, Arnold Sabella, set bail at $1 million.
“If he shows up on a beach in Tahiti, he’ll be on social media,” Sabella said.
Prosecutors say the three victims were robbed by associates of Arnold, while being held at gunpoint in a Tampa apartment in February.
