New hires and promotions

Dr. Shashi Kumar has joined Conemaugh Physician Group — Gastroenterology. Kumar will provide outpatient care at the office as well as an inpatient care at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.

Kumar will screen and treat patients for a range of gastrointestinal concerns including diseases of the gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas, liver, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, intestines and colon. He specializes in advanced diagnostic testing for GI health issues.

Nathanael R. Shaffer has been promoted by 1st Summit Bank to wealth management business development officer at its Richland community office.

Shaffer, who joined 1st Summit in 2007, will provide guidance and innovative solutions for the planning needs of individuals and businesses in retirement planning, investment and insurance services, education funding and employee benefits.

Anthony M. Marfisi has been appointed regional market executive and president of First National Bank’s Central Mountain Region. Marfisi previously was regional manager of commercial banking in the Pittsburgh region.

Marfisi is responsible for markets including State College, where he is based, as well as Altoona, Bedford, Hollidaysburg, Johnstown, Selinsgrove and Williamsport. He oversees the Commercial Banking functions, as well as the deployment of FNB’s cross-functional business model.

John Elder of Duncansville has been named vice president sales of Jowat Corp., a global adhesive manufacturer with U.S. headquarters in High Point, N.C.

Elder, a 1985 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, and 1989 graduate of Lock Haven University, joined Jowat in 1997, and has served as sales representative, regional sales manager and national sales manager.

Rebecca Young of Hollidaysburg has joined Affinity Health Services as director of human resources.

Young — who earned a master’s degree in human resources management from Saint Francis University, where she once served as an adjunct professor, and a bachelor’s degree in hospital administration from Penn State — is a human resources professional with more than 20 years of experience in operations, leadership, administration and general HR functions.
