Penn West California students part of ‘Into the Woods’

Two area students were involved in the production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” April 17-19 at PennWest California.

Peyton Reese of Clearfield, a theater-design and entertainment technology student, performed the role of costume designer on the production crew.

Olivia Williams of Ramey, a junior communication sciences and disorders student, performed the role of Cinderella on the cast.

Scholar earns award from sport management department

The Department of Sport Management at Kutztown University announced its senior award winners who were recognized at the College of Business Commencement Banquet Friday, May 8.

Sydney Gibbons of Cresson was recognized by the COSMA Chi Sigma Mu Honors Society.

Team from Cedarville wins cyber games competition

After hours of defending simulated networks against coordinated cyberattacks, a team of Cedarville University students secured first place in one of two Midwest Divisions of the NCAE Cyber Games on Feb. 7.

Cedarville’s winning team included computer engineering, computer science and cyber operations majors. Local team members were: David Pascual, a senior from Hollidaysburg, who served as team captain; and Nathan Karn, a senior from Hollidaysburg.

Phi Kappa Phi elects new members

A number of local students from Penn State University recently were elected to membership into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

They are Abigail Christine of Sandy Ridge, Kathleen Dambeck of Altoona, Trissa Smith of Portage, Hannah Gampe of Tyrone and Jordan Sneath of Duncansville.

Lebanon Valley student attends FBLA State Conference

Shelly Bliss of Huntingdon is one of six Lebanon Valley College students who attended the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference in Harrisburg.

Bliss, a graduate of Mount Union High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in exercise science at LVC. Bliss placed second in Impromptu Speaking.

All six students qualified to compete at the national conference in Las Vegas this summer.

Four Penn Highlands students named to All-Pa Academic Team

The Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges recently honored the 32nd annual All-Pennsylvania Academic Team, consisting of select students representing 15 community colleges from across Pennsylvania.

This honor recognizes high-achieving college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society.

The students are selected for the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team based on a nomination and application process.

The 2026 scholars include Transfer Pathway students and Workforce Pathway students, with four of those honored being from Pennsylvania Highlands.

The following students were selected and are members of the All-Pennsylvania Academic Transfer Pathway Team: Caitlyn Carnahan of Patton, Emmie Johns of South Fork, Gina Pettenati of Ashville and Makayla Stephens of Northern Cambria.

Transfer Pathway honorees plan to transfer to a four-year college after graduation.

They must have completed at least 36 credits at a community college with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Pennsylvania’s community colleges partner with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to provide scholarships to Transfer Pathway students, providing two years of tuition at any PASSHE school.

Baldwin Wallace student inducted into honor society

Abbie George of Ebensburg, a sport management student at Baldwin Wallace University, was inducted into the Dayton C. Miller Honor Society.

George, a graduate of Central Cambria High School, was honored with membership that is achieved by only 4% of the undergraduate student body.
