Sitting Bulls Sled Hockey returns to the ice for the 2025 season.

Sitting Bulls Sled Hockey is looking for physically challenged athletes ages 5 to adult to give sled hockey a try and join the team.

New players are welcome and are encouraged to attend this first practice of the season at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at North Central Recreation Center, Ebensburg.

You will have the opportunity to meet current and experienced physically challenged players of all levels and ages; coaches and staff.

Sled hockey, also known as Para ice hockey, is an adaptation of traditional ice hockey for players with physical disabilities.

Equipment will be provided for all players.

Sled hockey provides opportunities for physically disabled athletes of all ages and skill levels to engage in physical activity, build confidence, and enjoy the sport. Players utilize special sleds that rest on two skate blades and use two sticks with metal picks to move across the ice.

Date changed for free S’mores and a movie

The movie “Inside Out 2” will be shown at Canoe Creek State Park, Hollidaysburg, on Thursday, Aug. 14. S’mores will be available at 7:30 p.m. at the campfire. The movie begins at 8:45 p.m. at Pavilion 2.

Those attending are urged to bring snacks, refreshments, flashlights, chairs, blankets and bug spray.

This is a drug-, alcohol- and smoke-free event.

Veterans food collection set for Friday in Ebensburg

Laurel Highlands Historical Village will be collecting food and other necessities for veterans and the elderly in need.

The collection will be held in front of the Ebensburg Walmart from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15.

In addition to non-perishable food items, the group is collecting gift cards, paper goods, hygiene products, blankets, ceramic heaters and new and used kitchen items and towels.

There are veterans calling weekly for support, the group said.

Donations will also be accepted at the Galleria Mall, lower level, in Johnstown, as well as the Hoss’s in Ebensburg and Johnstown, Kimmie’s restaurant in Mundys Corner, Stagers in Portage and Randy’s Bi Lo in Windber.

Donations can be mailed to LHHV, 390 Rose Branch St., Johnstown, PA 15909.
