The Rispoli and Sky families have created the Rosalind E. Sky “LOL” Love of Learning Future Educator Scholarship in honor of their mother, Roz Sky, who has a passion for not just teaching kids information, but teaching kids how to learn.
Sky spent many years creating and implementing new teaching techniques and finding innovative ways to motivate elementary school children to want to learn.
Her core personal education philosophy was based on two principles.
The first was to build her students’ self-esteem. “Kids learn the most when they feel good about themselves” was something she professed throughout her teaching years. Second, learning should be fun. Roz spent years developing educational games and motivational techniques that also helped her students develop life skills.
Sky, a former elementary school teacher and reading specialist, continues to dedicate her life to her community as a volunteer and philanthropist for numerous meaningful organizations including Penn State, University of Pittsburgh and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Blair County, the American Cancer Society, Agudath Achim Congregation, Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Blair County Arts Foundation, among others.
Roz continues to live by her own version of LOL … Lots of Love, and her favorite phrase, “Live Love Laugh.”
