Cambria Heights sixth graders learn about 4-H

On Wednesday, Sept. 3, the Cambria Heights sixth grade class attended the American Legion County Fair for a hands-on educational field trip focused on agriculture and 4-H. The trip was made possible through the generosity and support of several community members and organizations.

Thanks to American Legion President John Cobaugh, students were able to attend the fair and explore the many opportunities it offered. Fred Imler of Imler Poultry generously covered the cost of transportation, while the 4-H Program Development Committee provided drinks for students. In addition, Denny Gresh of Gresh Concessions offered food at a discounted price to ensure every student could enjoy lunch at the fair.

Throughout the day, students toured the animal barns, where they met with 4-H members, barn superintendents, parents, and community experts who shared their knowledge and experience. They observed part of the livestock show, explored the Agriculture Building, and participated in interactive agriculture-themed games led by the fair queen, princess, young miss, and fair ambassadors.

The event was coordinated with the help of Capri Stiles-Mikesell, 4-H Educator with Penn State Extension, who assisted with scheduling and organizing the day’s activities.

Students left the fair with a deeper understanding of agriculture, livestock care, and the importance of 4-H in supporting youth leadership and community involvement. The Cambria Heights School District extends its gratitude to all who made the trip possible and for giving students the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom.

Starting at $3.83/week.
