Franklin R. Sweed Jr.

Born June 9, 1939, he was the son of Frank R. Sweed Sr. and Mary Christinia Smith and raised as a foster son of Pearl and Merle Hockenberry.

He is survived by children: Robert (Diane) Sweed of Altoona, Ronald Sweed of Schuylkill County, Laul of Irvona and Will of Altoona; sisters: Doris Hanson (Curtis) of Ebensburg, Deborah Blake (Charles) of Westover, Joan Davis (Scott) of Alverda, Jane Huber of Osceola Mills and Barb Tressler of Philipsburg; 28 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents and foster parents; wife, Marilyn Westover; brothers and sisters: Francis Mooney, Louise Sweed, Vincent Sweed, Sarah Sweed and Susan Hynd; and foster sisters: Jane Slovosky, Edeth Ninosky, Isabell Bretzon.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026, at Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home Inc., Irvona, and at LaJose Word of God Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, with a funeral service to follow.
