Local leadership deserves recognition
We often take for granted the security and relative affordability of life in Blair County. Unsurprisingly, these strengths directly correlate with strong Republican leadership. Recently, S&P Global Ratings upgraded Altoona’s credit rating to an “A+.” It should come as no surprise that our unanimous Republican council and mayor have played a significant role in encouraging private reinvestment to rehabilitate homes across our city. Their strong financial planning has also been key to this progress.
In Harrisburg, Sen. Judy Ward has consistently led the fight for fairness and common sense in Pennsylvania. Despite attacks from pundits, politicians, and even the governor, she remains a steadfast advocate for her “Save Women’s Sports” Act. This bill aims to promote fairness in athletics, where, since 2020 in Pennsylvania, men have taken first place from female athletes 87 times and taken second or third place 64 times.
While state Reps. Andrea Verobish and Scott Barger may sit in the minority in the Pennsylvania House, they remain steadfast opponents of reckless budgets, and we thank them for their commitment to fiscal responsibility in our commonwealth.
U.S. Rep. John Joyce in Washington also deserves recognition for his support of continued tax cuts, which could save the average American family $2,600 annually. This would allow Americans to spend more of their hard-earned money as they see fit, rather than allowing the government to continue to waste it.
