Much has been said and written about hospital care, both locally and throughout the United States. Over the past two years, I have come to realize that our UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Altoona is a true gem.

I have been totally impressed with Hillman’s doctors, nurses and support staff as they have cared for me since May 2024, when I was diagnosed with smoldering multiple myeloma.

Dr. Mark Keating, my oncologist/hematologist, truly cares about his patients and is great to work with. The nursing staff and the front office staff members for all of the doctors at Hillman are unbelievable, keeping patients informed, happy and satisfied as they schedule appointments for meetings, testing and treatments.

The phlebotomists efficiently draw your blood, with only one stick of the needle, so far, always with a smile to help you relax.

Last, but certainly not least, I cannot say enough about the nurses and aides in the treatment room. They are always in a good mood, making you feel like a million dollars, while conducting your treatment. They are top-notch.

Finally, I encourage all residents to remember that if they or a family member has need to access this center, the wonderful people at UPMC Hillman will provide superior care for the duration of their journey.
