Shirley J. Black, 89, of Altoona, died early Friday morning, July 24, 2026, at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness. She was born July 28, 1936, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Lester J. and Mabel J. (Decker) Salsgiver. She married Andrew Thomas Black on June 16, 1954. He preceded her in death May 15, 2020. Surviving are two children, son, Thomas A. Black (Donna) of Birmingham and daughter Connie J. Dr. Robert A. Baker, 79, of Alexandria, passed away Monday. He is survived by daughters: Brenda Michel, Carrie Hicks and Laura Garrett; and nine grandchildren: Cameron, Megan, Morgan and Colton Michel; Jenna, Josh and Violet Hicks; and Lily and Gabriel Garrett. In 1976, Dr. Baker established his private dental practice in Altoona and enjoyed a long and distinguished career.
