Shirley J. Black, 89, of Altoona, died early Friday morning, July 24, 2026, at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness.
She was born July 28, 1936, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Lester J. and Mabel J. (Decker) Salsgiver. She married Andrew Thomas Black on June 16, 1954. He preceded her in death May 15, 2020.
Surviving are two children, son, Thomas A. Black (Donna) of Birmingham and daughter Connie J. Robbins (George) of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren, including Michael Black, who was raised in the home; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Salsgiver; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Black; and numerous extended family members.
Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Jack Leroy Black; a grandson, Jacob T. Black; four sisters and three brothers.
She was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School.
A future memorial service is planned. Interment will be made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona. Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., Altoona.
