From Mirror staff reports
Two city residents are behind bars after a controlled drug buy in the area of Prospect Pool on Friday turned up a larger stash of drugs, Altoona police reported.
According to court documents, Draven Eric Dunio, 24, and Dena M. Dunio, 55, were arraigned Saturday on drug and gun charges before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio. Unable to post $150,000 cash bail, Draven Dunio was remanded to the Blair County Prison. Dena Dunio was unable to post $75,000 cash bail and also remanded to the prison.
The charges stem from a controlled buy where a confidential informant contacted Draven Dunio via Facebook to set up a drug buy on Friday afternoon, police reported.
The CI was provided with $600 in prerecorded task force funds and taken to the 1200 block of Second Avenue about 1:39 p.m. Dunio arrived about 2 p.m. and the CI entered his Subaru sedan, which Dunio drove a short distance and parked on the north side of the 1200 block of Second Avenue, closer to 13th Street.

A few minutes later, the CI exited the vehicle and walked back to the undercover officer’s car with two bags of suspected drugs — one a cloudy white crystal suspected to be methamphetamine and another with a light brown powdery substance suspected to be heroin.
The CI told the officer that Dunio also had a “ghost gun” during previous meetings.
Other surveillance units followed Dunio’s vehicle and executed a felony vehicle stop on the 1600 block of Bell Avenue. Draven Dunio was taken into custody on drug violations. A female passenger, Dena Dunio, was also detained.
Before the vehicle was towed, officers conducted an inventory of the contents. When the center console was opened and a bag containing suspected marijuana was found, officers stopped the inventory and the vehicle was towed to the Altoona Police Department and placed under video surveillance.
During a search of Draven Dunio, officers found $5,070 in U.S. currency in his pant’s pocket.
Police also field tested the suspected drugs purchased by the CI and the tests were positive for marijuana and methamphetamine, court documents state.
The money found on Draven Dunio did not include the prerecorded funds used by the CI, but after executing a search warrant on the vehicle, the Task Force funds were found inside a black purse that belonged to Dena Dunio, police reported.
Also during the vehicle search, officers located and seized a large quantity of narcotics, drug paraphernalia and a firearm. A backpack found on the front passenger seat contained 46 grams of crack cocaine valued at $4,800, 82 grams of crystal methamphetamine valued at $8,200, 6 grams of raw heroin valued at $1,600 and 484 grams of marijuana valued at $2,000. Additional assorted pills and packaged Suboxone strips were also found. The silver/black .45-caliber handgun did not have a discernible serial number, police said. The gun, along with one magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition, were found concealed in the backpack.
Neither Draven or Dena Dunio hold a current/valid state concealed carry permit. In addition, a check of Draven Dunio’s driver history shows that his license is suspended and expired, police reported.
Draven Dunio faces a preliminary hearing Sept. 7 before DeAntonio. His charges include four felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, four felony counts of conspiracy to deliver, a felony count of criminal use of a communication facility, four misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of carrying a firearm without a license and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with summary charges of driving without a license and driving on a suspended license.
