A motorcyclist was killed in a violent crash along Plank Road on Wednesday evening.

Blair County Coroner Patty Ross said the 18-year-old man died from severe blunt-force trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet. The name of the deceased isn’t being released until his family is notified.

Firefighters closed the northbound lanes of Plank Road from near Pier 1 Imports to well past the Target and Field & Stream stores. An accident reconstructionist was called to the scene, and officers said the process could last well into the night. It was unclear when the roads in Allegheny Township would be reopened and closed-off businesses would again be accessible.

The motorcycle was destroyed, and an SUV was visibly damaged in the crash.

Police released few details Wednesday evening, including the seriousness of any other injuries and the number of people involved.

A Jeep appeared to have been making a turn from the road at the time of the crash. Its left turn signal was still flashing, an airbag was visibly deployed inside and the front right door was badly smashed.

The motorcycle lay on the road, debris scattered for several yards. A strong odor of fuel and vehicle fluids was noticeable.

Police said they planned to release a detailed description of the crash this morning.
