Girls Night Out raises $240K for cancer patients
Group’s president vows to raise $50,000 for Bedford County
Girls Night Out Altoona Inc. on Tuesday announced a $240,000 donation to four recipients — The Bob Perks Fund, Magee Women’s Specialty Center at UPMC Altoona, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, specifically Dr. Craig Meyer’s Breast Cancer Research Program and Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center.
Bob Perks received $100,000, and Girls Night Out President Juls Bratton made a pledge that she would personally be raising $50,000 in unrestricted funds for Bob Perks this year so that they are able to support Bedford County, as there isn’t any assistance available for cancer patients in that area.
Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute and Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center each received $50,000, and Magee Women’s Specialty Center at UPMC Altoona, $40,000.
Girls Night Out Altoona Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for charitable causes, has been making a significant impact on the community. This latest round of donations marks a key milestone in their ongoing efforts to support those in need.
To date, Girls Night Out Altoona Inc. has raised $1.7 million. The majority of this year’s funds were raised during their 16th annual event Oct. 23 at the Blair County Convention Center. This event brought together community members, sponsors, and volunteers to make a positive difference in the lives of those affected by breast cancer and to create opportunities for those without insurance (or underinsured) to receive early diagnostic testing.
“We are proud to contribute to these outstanding organizations at the forefront of the fight against breast cancer and supporting individuals and families during challenging times,” Bratton said. “Raising $240,000 in 2024 truly symbolizes the collective efforts of our community to make a meaningful impact throughout our region.”
The Bob Perks Fund, The Magee Women’s Specialty Center at UPMC Altoona, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute and the Joyce Murtha Breast Cancer Center are all recognized for their unwavering commitment to advancing breast cancer research, providing support to patients, and making a positive impact on the community.
Girls Night Out Altoona Inc. encourages the community to join them in celebrating this significant milestone and to continue supporting local initiatives that aim to improve the lives of those affected by breast cancer.
