Youthpower Inc., Michael Cassidy director, a nonprofit job referral service for young adults, opened that week for the summer in the Seller’s Building, 1410 11th Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

25 years ago: June 3, 2001

A class action lawsuit required Norfolk Southern Railroad to pay millions of dollars to land owners along its tracks in 16 states for installing telecommunication lines along their property. Blair County alone had 602 eligible parcels.

10 years ago: June 3, 2016

Rabbi Audrey Korotkin and the Rev. Marlys Hershberger spoke at the Wear Orange for National Gun Violence Awareness Day held by area women at the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg.

On June 3, 1943, an altercation between U.S. Navy sailors and young Mexican Americans on the streets of Los Angeles led to several days of clashes known as the Zoot Suit Riots as white mobs attacked Mexican Americans across the city, injuring more than 150 people.
