Military Food Share moved to Thursday
This month’s Military Food Share distribution at the Duncansville VFW Auxiliary 8724 will be held on Thursday, April 13, beginning at noon. The auxiliary is not able to hold the distribution on the second Monday, as usual, due to the Easter holiday.
This is for all active military, veterans and widows or widowers of veterans living in Blair County. The program is currently serving veterans in need and gives to individuals who qualify by the income guidelines.
A military and photo ID are required. Enter from Dunnings Highway/Newry Lane and line up on Turek Drive if the parking lot is full.
BPW to hold health, wellness event
Altoona and Windber Business and Professional Women District 5 will host a Women’s Health and Wellness event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at St Patrick’s School Gym, 731 Patrick Lane, Newry.
This free event is for women of all ages to learn about overall health including mental, physical, spiritual and financial and share BPW membership information.
Breakout sessions include Doula, Lindsay Martella PhD; Breast Health, Dr. Deborah Sims; Down There Care, Dr. Stacey Carlitz; Dealing with Stress, Dr. Ella McElwee; Nutrition and Exercise, Julie Patual; and Hypnosis and Mental Health, Teresa Martel, certified hypnotherapist.
There will be various women-owned vendors. including Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Thirty One, Scentsy, handmade jewelry and more.

Family Search Center to re-open
The Family Search Center (formerly called Family History Center) will re-open on Saturday, April 15, and will be open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For anyone new to genealogical research, the center will have a special class to discuss how to do family history plus instruction on how to use the resources available at the center.

Burns to collect nonperishable food
EBENSBURG — The offices of State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, will serve as a collection point for a monthlong food drive for local food pantries.
Unexpired, nonperishable food items may be dropped off through April 30 at 535 Fairfield Ave., Johnstown, or 119 S. Center St., Ebensburg.
While all nonperishable items are welcome, donations of boxed goods such as cereal or instant potatoes, pudding and canned vegetables such as corn, green beans and sweet potatoes, are of particular need.

NARFE to meet Friday at Hoss’s
National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Friday April 14, at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House, Duncansville, with lunch at noon and the meeting at
1 p.m. Jim Snyder will present a match game of “Courthouse Faces.”

Quakers to continue speaker series
FISHERTOWN — The Dunnings Creek Friends Meeting (Quakers) will present the Spring ’23 event in their ‘Still Listening’ guest speaker series on local history.
The event will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 16, at the historic Dunnings Creek Friends Meetinghouse (also known as the Old Brick Quaker Church), 285 Old Quaker Church Road, Fishertown, as well as online via Zoom.
Delores “Dee” Marshall Myers of Everett will present “The Testimony of a Black Woman: Love Justice Equality” relating her experiences growing up and living in the small rural town of Everett.

Auditions set for spring kids’ show
Auditions for Off Pitt Street Theater’s spring kids’ show, “Alice in Wonderland,” will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15, the Bedford Arts Cooperative, and 4 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at The State Theater of Johnstown. Actors ages 7-14 of all genders are encouraged to sign up.
“Alice in Wonderland” will be produced at the Bedford Arts Cooperative and the State Theater of Johnstown. Actors will be able to select to be cast in either or both venues. Selection options are on the online registration form. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, in Bedford and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27 and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, in Johnstown.

Voice actors needed for ‘Spaceballs’
Voice actors are encouraged to sign up to be part of the cast of “Atomic Radio: Spaceballs” live performance radio show. There is no audition, but the signup deadline is Friday, April 14. Casting is limited. Those with the ability to do a variety of accents are encouraged.
“Atomic Radio” is a “live performance” where actors present stories through dramatic reading — like the widely popular radio shows of the 1940s and ’50s. No memorization is required. There are four rehearsals and one performance.
“Atomic Radio: Spaceballs” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the State Theater of Johnstown (to celebrate “May the 4th”). The only requirements are reading fluency and a dynamic voice.
