Wreaths Across America seeks sponsors

Wreaths Across America is coming to a Bellwood area cemetery, and Patty Davis of Bellwood, president of the U.S. Armed Forces Mothers, is the location coordinator.

Nearly 1,000 wreaths need to be sponsored for this event, which will be held Saturday, Dec. 19. The ceremony will be held at the Logan Valley Cemetery, 195 Stadium Drive, Bellwood. More information will be announced at a later date.

Davis’ son, Jason Davis, and Joyce Villani, a member of the U.S. Armed Forces Mothers, are on her team to help reach the cemetery’s fundraising goal.

Blair Garden Club to meet Monday

Members of the Blair Garden Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the American Legion Post 516 Social Hall, 1501 N. Juniata St., Hollidaysburg.

The program will be a final discussion about the club’s plant sale, which will be held Friday, May 15, at the Jaggard United Methodist Church, Altoona.

Plant sale chair Nancy Smith will have necessary supplies for the sale and a work sign-up sheet.

Night at the Races set for May 16

The Women’s Club of Altoona will hold its annual “A Night at the Races” fundraiser on Saturday, May 16, at Father Kelly Hall, 2412 Fifth St., Altoona.

Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The event will include dinner, basket raffles, games of chance, gift card trees and and horse race betting.

Tickets are $30 per person and include a dinner buffet. Tickets may be purchased through May 11.

Funds raised support the many community service projects undertaken by The Women’s Club of Altoona, and to maintain its historic property on Union Avenue, Altoona.

Carnival Craze to be held April 30

Saint Francis University Shields School of Business students will host Carnival Craze for a Cause from

2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, on the Loretto campus mall. The rain location is inside the auxiliary gym behind the Stokes-Twyman gym.

The fair will include vendor tables, music, carnival games, food and a basket raffle.

A donation of $10 will get 10 tickets, which will allow individuals to purchase food or carnival game tickets.

Basket raffle tickets will be sold separately.

All proceeds will go to the Dorothy Day Outreach Center.

Ballroom dance schedule for May 10

Centre Ballroom will sponsor a ballroom dance from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Lambert Hall, Bellefonte.

The dance will start with a swing dance lesson. The cost is $10 per person and a snack to share.

WISE Women plans member events

WISE Women of Blair County has announced upcoming events for May and June.

May 5 — Cinco De Mayo meeting at 5:30 p.m. at Tavern 27 at the Park Hills Golf Club. Each member is responsible for their own food and beverage costs. RSVP at wisewomenofblaircounty.org by April 28.

June 3 — Dinner Al Fresco at 5:30 p.m. Jethro’s outside (if it rains, it will be inside). Former WISE president/board member/Master Gardener Dee Martin-Spallone will guide members in making a flower bouquet with silk flowers on ink pens. Each member can order dinner and drinks at their own expense. Cost for materials is $7 per person, payable with reservation at

wisewomenofblaircounty.org. RSVP by May 17.

June 20 — Members are invited to visit PNG Field to hear the Altoona Symphony play patriotic music in celebration of the 250-year anniversary of the United States. This event is free to the public and includes fireworks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m with the Altoona Community Band playing first then the Altoona Symphony starting at 7:30 p.m.

Cub Scout open house set for Monday

Cub Scout Pack 3331 will hold an open house at 6 p.m. Monday, April 27, at St. Mary’s Church Hall, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg. It is for boys going into kindergarten through fifth grade this fall.

Pack leaders and parents keep Scouts on a path of citizen training, character development and personal fitness.

As Scouts earn a new rank each year, they are also doing so alongside the other Scouts, developing friendships that will last a lifetime. This is done through a program of activities that will teach lessons of self-worth, the importance of community and helping others.

The pack meets at 6 p.m. Mondays during the school year at St. Mary’s Church Social Hall, 312 Clark St. in Hollidaysburg.
