Area artists featured at Misciagna exhibit

Several area artists who are Penn State Altoona alumni have their work exhibited at Penn State Altoona’s Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Courtesy photo
An exhibition of work by Penn State Altoona alumni, including some who remain in Blair County, is on display through Sept. 21 in the McLanahan and Sheetz galleries of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts on campus.
Area artists featured are: Meghann Mignogna, Abraham Onkst, Amanda Pulcine, Maddie Quinn and Kylea Myers. Other artists are by Sarah E. Jenkins, Gary Weyandt, Madisyn Lynn Simington, Angel Ash and Jordan Alwine. A closing reception for the artists will be held Sept. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Titelman Study of the Center.
Mignogna is a visual artist who works in charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, and acrylic. Her work includes many intricacies and layers to illustrate obscure and visceral concepts. She received a B.A. in Visual Arts Studies from Penn State Altoona in May 2023. During her time at Penn State Altoona, Mignogna received numerous awards, including, Student Excellence in Visual Arts Award, honoring both her artwork and academic achievements.
She is earning her M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts at Point Park University while also teaching drawing, painting, animation, and graphic design at Grier School in Tyrone.
Onkst is a painter, designer, and creator born and raised in Hollidaysburg. He graduated in 2023 with his B.A. in Visual Art Studies from Penn State Altoona, and he plans to pursue an M.F.A. in painting. Since a young age, Onkst has had a natural gravitation to the art world and all things creative. He first decided to pick up a brush when he was 13 years old, and he has not stopped painting since.
Pulcine of Altoona creates drawings, paintings and sculptures in both traditional and digital mediums. Pulcine graduated from Penn State Altoona in May 2015 with a B.A. in visual art studies. Her work has been displayed in the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona and published in Penn State Altoona’s literary arts magazine, Hard Freight. Pulcine was also a 2013 recipient of the Zoller Art Award at Penn State Altoona.
Quinn is a multidisciplinary artist who focuses on storytelling by investigating and exploring themes of mystery, duality, and the mundane. She earned her M.F.A. in art with a concentration in drawing and painting from Penn State in 2022, her M.A. in art with a concentration in drawing and painting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2019, and her B.A. in visual art studies from Penn State Altoona in 2018. Quinn is an assistant teaching professor of visual arts at Penn State Altoona, and she was the Emerging Artist in Residence in 2023. During her time at Penn State Altoona as a VAST major, she exhibited in many exhibitions; served as president of the Art Club, published multiple times in Hard Freight literary magazine, and received the Fine Arts Award twice.
Myers is the Theatre and Gallery Coordinator for the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts at Penn State Altoona. She received her B.A. in visual art studies in 2017 from Penn State Altoona. She likes to volunteer with Altoona Community Theatre and Things Unseen Theatre primarily as a set painter, but she also helps with lighting design, decor, and more. She will serve on Altoona Community Theatre’s Artistic Committee beginning this month. She also volunteers as Things Unseen’s Box Office Manager. Myers previously served as the corresponding secretary for the local art group Art in Common.
