FAA lifts order slashing flights
The Federal Aviation Administration said it is lifting all restrictions on commercial flights that were imposed during the government shutdown at 40 major U.S. airports.
The agency says airlines can resume normal flight schedules beginning Monday at 6 a.m. EST. The unprecedented order had been in place since Nov. 7 and affected thousands of flights.
North Carolina
Border Patrol arrests dozens in Charlotte
A top Border Patrol commander is touting dozens of arrests in North Carolina’s largest city on Sunday as Charlotte residents report encounters with federal immigration agents near churches and apartment complexes.
The effort is dubbed “Operation Charlotte’s Webb” as a play on the title of a famous children’s book that isn’t about North Carolina. The flurry of activity immediately raised questions, including where detainees would be held.

Former power plant catches fire
TEXAS CITY — Firefighters in southeastern Texas have battled a blaze at a decommissioned power plant. Texas City Emergency Management Director Joe Tumbleson says the fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and about 50 to
60 firefighters from several area departments were on the scene during the day.
No injuries have been reported. The fire was mostly out by late afternoon, but it was expected to smolder through the night and officials have warned area residents to remain indoors or leave the area to avoid any smoke.

Presidential race heads to tense runoff
SANTIAGO — Chile is braced for a tense presidential runoff after a first-round vote set up a showdown between a member of the Communist Party and an ultraconservative veteran politician, sharply polarizing the country.
Jeannette Jara, the communist former labor minister and candidate of Chile’s center-left governing coalition, claimed more than 26% of valid ballots with over 80% of the vote counted, failing to pass the 50% threshold to secure victory in the first round. José Antonio Kast, a hard-right former lawmaker, captured more than 24% of the vote.
Iran
Minister: Nation not enriching uranium
TEHRAN — Iran’s foreign minister says the country is no longer enriching uranium at any site. Abbas Araghchi responded Sunday to an Associated Press journalist’s question about Iran’s nuclear program. He said there is no undeclared nuclear enrichment in Iran.
He added that all facilities are under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s safeguards and monitoring. Araghchi explained there is no enrichment because their facilities were attacked.
Finland
Stubb urges Europe to hold its nerve
HALVALA — President Alexander Stubb of Finland told The Associated Press that a ceasefire in Ukraine is unlikely before spring. Despite a corruption scandal in Kyiv, he urged European allies to maintain support for the country.
Stubb said Europe needs to think more Finnish and show “sisu,” a Finnish term for resilience, as Russia continues its hybrid attacks in Europe.
