Hazardous waste collection to include small businesses

From Mirror staff reports

The Intermunicipal Relations Committee will be opening this year’s household hazardous waste collection to small businesses.

Residents with household hazardous waste such as aerosols, antifreeze, automotive batteries and flammable liquids are encouraged to set those materials aside in anticipation of the July 12 collection being organized by the IRC at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Small businesses interested in participating should contact the IRC by May 16 to register and provide a list of the waste they propose to dispose, including the name of the material, the manufacturer if known, the container size, the number of containers and the type of waste. Info can be submitted to Katrina Pope at kpope@ Those with questions can contact her at 942-7472.

The IRC will ask residents dropping off household hazardous waste to pay a $10 fee per car “trunk load” to help cover the cost of disposal. Participating businesses also will be asked to cover disposal costs, based on the waste they provide.
