Central wins sectionals, moves 4 on to next round

EBENSBURG — Central placed first in the team competition and advanced four individuals from the District 6 Class 2A Boys Golf Sectionals on Wednesday at Ebensburg Country Club. The top four teams and the top 30 individual golfers will compete in the District 6 2A Championships on Tuesday at Scotch Valley Country Club. LILLY — Both the Central Cambria boys and girls defeated three other opponents in a high school cross country meet at Lilly War Memorial Park on Wednesday. The CC boys nipped Altoona, 28-29, and beat Bedford, 17-40, and Bellwood-Antis, 15-49. The Bedford boys topped Bellwood, 16-46. Evan George and Dom Kuntz led the Red Devils with a 1-2 finish, while Altoona took spots 4-6 with Camdyn Woomer, Chris Fox and Ryen Webster. MECHANICSBURG — The Altoona girls volleyball evened its record at 3-3 Wednesday night, thanks to a 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-20 win at Cumberland Valley in high school play. It was the Lady Eagles’ first loss this season (6-1). The Lady Spikers got 14 kills from Ellaina Saylor to go with 16 digs from Aunye Counsman and 16 assists from Jorja Treece. TYRONE — Isaac Miller, Keagan Hockey and Tyler Steiner of Hollidaysburg and Kreighoff Cumming of Altoona advanced through District 6 Class 3A high school boys golf sectionals at Sinking Valley Country Club on Tuesday.
