Altoona swimmers split in tri-meet

The Altoona Area High School boys and girls swim teams each went 1-1 in a tri-meet at the AAHS Fieldhouse pool on Wednesday. The Altoona boys topped Penns Valley, 82-44, but was edged by Marion Center, 78-76. The Altoona girls beat Penns Valley, 67-47, but lost to Marion Center, 120-43. Trevor Wilson won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 breaststroke for the Altoona boys. Panick helps Lions to victory

The Altoona ice hockey team improved to 8-7 Tuesday night, thanks to a 6-3 win over Richland in high school play at Galactic Ice. The Mountain Lions jumped on the Rams for four goals in the second period to break a 1-1 tie after one period. Carter Panick led the Mountain Lions with two goals and an assist in a game that also featured goals from teammates Noah Staines, Hayden Hosgood, Chris Kozminski and Dominic Della. RIDGWAY — The Altoona Area High School gymnastics team moved to 9-0 with a 141.875-105.425 win over Ridgway on Saturday. Emma Bettwy and Abby Donlan finished 1-2 in the all-around for Altoona. The Saint Francis University/REAL Bocce Ball Invitational, originally scheduled to be held at SFU on Jan. 6 has been rescheduled and will be held Saturday at the Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse, with the first round starting at 10 a.m. The teams participating will be Altoona White, Altoona Maroon, Bedford, two teams from Bald Eagle Area, Central, Central Cambria, Johnstown, two teams from Penn Cambria, Southern Huntingdon and a Penn Cambria alumni team that is not eligible for awards. Tigers, Lions both pick up wins

EBENSBURG — Hollidaysburg controlled the game from the start in earning a 9-0 shutout victory over Westmont Hilltop in high school hockey play at North Central Recreation Center Tuesday night.
