UNIVERSITY PARK — The Hollidaysburg boys tennis team dropped a 3-0 decision to State College on Friday in the District 6 Class 3A championships held at the Penn State Tennis Center in high school play. “I am really proud of my guys,” said Hollidaysburg coach Brian Denis, whose club fell to 18-1. “We knew we had to play almost perfect tennis to have a shot, and for the first half of the match, we were playing lights out, looking good in three of the four matches that were being played. Hollidaysburg defeated Westmont Hilltop, 4-1, in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference high school boys tennis semifinals at the Summit Tennis & Athletic Club on Thursday. Smearman sparks Altoona to victory

LEWISBERRY — Aaron Smearman’s RBI single in the top of the seventh broke a 4-4 tie Saturday afternoon as the Altoona baseball team went on to a 9-5 win over Red Land in high school action. Starting pitcher Tanner Stroup struck out 11 in five innings of work, and hit a double and triple with one RBI. Teammate Connor Sanders added two hits and two RBIs.
