AAHS gets 3 first-teamers

HARRISBURG – Altoona placed two baseball players and one volleyball player on the Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth Division first-team spring all-stars. In baseball, the Mountain Lions’ Dante LaRocco and Tanner Stroup were named to the first team, and Aaron Smearman was a third-team selection. In volleyball, Altoona’s Caleb Fries earned first-team status, and Sam Kessinger was on the second team. By Rick Weaver For The Mirror RURAL VALLEY — The Central Dragons finished the 2024 volleyball campaign with a 3-0 loss to reigning champion West Shamokin in a District 6 Class 2A semifinal playoff match at West Shamokin High School. Dragons coach Ken Streilein, if it’s all the same, came away with an optimistic tone about the team. Central (5-10) will graduate only one senior. Lady Tigers get victory over rivals

The Hollidaysburg softball team evened its record at 10-10 on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a 6-1 win over Altoona in high school play at Logan Elementary. Winning pitcher Maria Malone struck out eight, scattered three hits and did not walk a batter. Mikaylah Vincent drove in two runs while Sydney Shay added a solo RBI effort. CHAMBERSBURG — Bron Mosley won the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 9 inches, and Ashlyn Noce won the 3200-meter run in 11:17.1 for Altoona at the Mid-Penn track and field championships on Saturday.
