Mustangs open up with big victory

PORTAGE — The Portage baseball team opened the 2024 season on Thursday with a 10-2 win over Purchase Line in high school play. The Mustangs, who scored six runs in the first inning, got two RBIs each from Jonah Irvin, Trae Kargo and Tony Lawrence. Curve to host Maverick’s Mission all-star game

The Altoona Curve announced on Friday the Maverick Baker Baseball All-Star Showcase will be played at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Saturday, June 22. The event will feature the region’s top junior and senior baseball players together for a nine-inning game. The game will consist of two teams comprised from various high schools throughout the region. The North will take on the South, with the teams to be independently selected by a private committee with the intention of selecting the best players in the area. The Trojans squared off against Bald Eagle Area in the PIAA Class 2A championship in a battle of all District 6 teams.
