Mustangs open up with big victory

PORTAGE -- The Portage baseball team opened the 2024 season on Thursday with a 10-2 win over Purchase Line in high school play.

The Mustangs, who scored six runs in the first inning, got two RBIs each from Jonah Irvin, Trae Kargo and Tony Lawrence. Teammates Easton Slanoc and Connor Binaut each had two hits and scored three runs. Starter Caleb Castel worked three innings and did not surrender a hit. He struck out three and walked four. He gave up a run but it was unearned. Binaut got the win in relief.

Snider leads Panthers

LOYSBURG -- Eion Snider gave up two hits over seven innings with eight strikeouts and no walks in leading Northern Bedford past Southern Huntingdon, 9-0.

Reece Musselman and Aaron Bowers took care of the offense with two hits and two RBIs each in a game NBC (1-1) led, 4-0, after three innings. Teammate Alex Kochara added two RBIs.

Bulldogs fall short

CLAYSBURG -- Tussey Mountain scored four runs in the second and two more in the top of the seventh to defeat Claysburg-Kimmel, 7-4.

The Bulldogs, who trailed 5-4 after five innings, got three hits and two runs scored from Mason Campagna. Teammate Riley Ebersole added two RBIs.

Tussey got two hits and an RBI from Landon Myers to go with two RBIs from Christian Santamaria.
