Altoona baseball team heads to District 6 playoffs at 9-11

CAMP HILL — Altoona dropped a Mid-Penn game to Cedar Cliff, 13-3, in five innings to finish the regular season at 9-11 in high school baseball on Tuesday.

Vinny Nedimyer paced Altoona with two hits, including a two-run double.

Cedar Cliff was led by Michael Boblick and Blake Secrest, who each drove in four runs. Boblick blasted a grand slam as part of an eight-run third inning.

Altoona hosts State College at 4 p.m. Thursday in the District 6 Class 6A semifinals.

MU rallies past JV

CLAYSBURG — Mount Union rallied with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to overtake Juniata Valley, 6-5, in the Inter-County Conference semifinals at Claysburg-Kimmel High School.

Three Mount Union runs scored on an error with one out to give the Trojans the walk-off victory.

Dmitre Boyd had three hits and two RBIs for the Hornets, and Elijah Johns had two hits. Ethan Scalia had three hits and gave up just two earned runs.

Beau Wise drove in three runs for Mount Union, which then beat Everett, 7-1, in the championship.

FLINTON — Cael Butler went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and scored four runs in Curwensville’s 20-5, five-inning victory over Glendale.

Lawson Neiswender and Breck Finn each drove in three runs for the Golden Tide. Ethan Gilbey went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Glendale.
