Athlete of the week achievement: Stroup went 9-for-15 (.600) with eight RBIs, eight runs scored and two doubles for Tyrone in five games last week, including a 6-3 win over Altoona in the Curve Classic championship game. Stroup also pitched six innings against previously unbeaten Hollidaysburg and struck out 11 while walking just one in Tyrone’s 4-3 semifinal win.
Season update: Stroup is batting .464 with nine RBIs this season and has 16 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched with a 3.82 ERA.
Coach Kevin Soellner’s quote: “Jon has really worked hard this year. Jon and his teammates all kind of got off to a slow start. But he turned it on this week. He pitched his best game this week against a very good Hollidaysburg team. I’m sure he will tell you that the one walk was the key to the game for him. Jon and his teammates are starting to come around on the fielding. He had a great game against the Altoona team. Jon has started to become a leader and a really good teammate this year.”
