Frosh Sahlaney hits the ground running for Tigers

Altoona Mirror Athlete of the Week

Sahlaney

Name: Jaclyn Sahlaney

School: Hollidaysburg Area

Age: 15

Grade: Freshman

Sport: Track and field

Athlete of the week achievement: Sahlaney set a school record in the 200 dash with a time of 25.58 and ran the 100 dash in 12.53 to finish first place in both events at the 20-team Lady Spartan Invitational at Hempfield Area High School. She also won the 100 and 200 dashes and the long jump for Hollidaysburg in wins over P-O and BEA earlier this week.

Season update: Sahlaney leads the Mirror’s Honor Roll in the 200 dash, is second in the 100 dash and is fourth in the long jump.

Coach Don Tantius’ quote: “Jaclyn came into the meet seeded first in all three of her events, and it was the first time she has ever had to run a preliminary in the 200 dash as well as the 100 dash. She made a statement in the 100 finals after a virtual tie with the runner-up in the prelims. The 200 this season has become her strongest event in my opinion, and establishing a new school record as a freshman sure seems to back that up. Jaclyn, along with most of her freshmen teammates, put in a lot of time and work during the indoor season and it is paying off.”
