From Mirror reports OMAHA, Neb. — The Penn State baseball team earned an 8-4 win over top-seed Illinois on Wednesday in its Big Ten Tournament Opener at Charles Schwab Field. The Nittany Lions got five strong innings from Travis Luensmann and key hits from Adam Cecere, J.T. Marr and Bobby Marsh. Penn State improved to 27-23 overall, while Illinois dropped to 33-18. The Associated Press LOS ANGELES — Each of the Big Ten Conference’s new West Coast schools will make at least one appearance this coming season on Fox Sports’ “College Football Friday” package. The 12-game schedule includes nine Big Ten matchups. Oregon, Southern California, UCLA and Washington will have at least one Friday night home game. UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson named former Nittany Lion Nick Lee as assistant coach, rounding out his coaching staff as the 2024-25 season nears. Lee became Penn State’s first five-time All-Americans in 2022 when he won his second straight individual NCAA championship at 141 pounds. Lee, who was part of three NCAA team championship squads for Penn State, tallied five podium finishes for Sanderson’s squad. The Associated Press LAWRENCE, Kan. — A Kansas judge on Friday ordered University of Illinois basketball standout Terrence Shannon Jr. to stand trial on a rape charge following testimony from a woman who said she was “terrified” as she was being assaulted. Shannon, 23, of Champaign, Illinois, is accused of committing sexual assault on Sept. 9, in Lawrence, Kansas.
