Nittany Lions sign on big man from Buffalo

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State men’s basketball coach Mike Rhoades announced the signing of 6-foot-11 center Tim Oboh for the 2026-27 season on Tuesday.

Oboh comes to University Park with two seasons of eligibility remaining after beginning his collegiate career as a two-year starter at Buffalo.

Born in London, England, Oboh started all 32 games for the Bulls last year where he averaged 8.5 points per game to go with 4.9 rebounds per game. In his first two seasons, he has totaled 388 points, 224 rebounds and 56 blocks while hitting on 56 percent of his shots from the field.

In prep school at the Canterbury Academy, Oboh averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds per game.

Softball honors

Four members of the Penn State Altoona softball team were lauded for their academic accomplishments on Tuesday when the College Sports Communicators revealed their NCAA Division III Academic All-District softball teams.

Named to the team were sophomores Allison Beeman (Tyrone) and Lauren Davidson, along with sophomores Madison Kennedy (Central) and Olivia Werkheiser.

To be eligible for a spot on an Academic All-District softball team, student-athletes must meet certain academic and athletic requirements. Academically, student-athletes must be at least sophomores while holding cumulative grade-point averages of 3.5 or higher. Athletically, players must have played in at least 90 percent of their team’s games, or started two thirds of the games.

For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings. Nominators could submit up to five qualified student-athletes per team.
