More postseason softball honors rolled in on Friday when Penn State Altoona junior outfielder Riley Best was selected to the second team of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-Region VII team.

Best, a Glendale graduate, becomes the fifth player in Penn State Altoona softball history to earn All-Region honors from the NFCA. Last week, the junior outfielder was announced as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference’s Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection.

Best played in all 40 games this season, her first with the Penn State Altoona softball program. She led the AMCC in hits (59), home runs (10), runs batted in (61), total bases (106), and slugging percentage (.869) while also ranking second in batting average (.484) and on-base percentage (.552), third in runs scored (44) and fifth in walks (19).

Best was the only AMCC softball student-athlete selected to the NFCA’s All-Region VII squad.

Potthoff hired

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State women’s basketball coach Tanisha Wright announces another Lady Lion will return home to serve on staff.

Angie Potthoff returns as the Chief of Staff following a most recent stint at Notre Dame as the Director of Operations for the last seven years.

Potthoff is a three-time Associated Press All-American, earning two honorable mention honors (1995 and 1997) and a third team nod (1996).

The All-American forward played at Penn State from 1992-97, helping her team to three NCAA Tournament appearances including two trips to the Sweet 16 and a berth in the 1994 regional final. In each of her final three seasons at Penn State, Potthoff led the Lady Lions in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.

Following her prolific collegiate career, Potthoff spent here seasons playing professional basketball. She was drafted no. 12 overall in the 1997 American Basketball League Draft by the Columbus Quest. There, she averaged 6.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while helping her team to two titles.

The following summer, Potthoff was selected in the fourth round (49th overall) of the WNBA draft to the Minnesota Lynx.
