Reports: Rodgers in Pittsburgh

Steelers

Rodgers

Multiple media outlets were reporting on Thursday that Aaron Rodgers was coming to Pittsburgh this weekend and a decision would soon be made on whether he will play for the Steelers this season.

And the speculation from those outlets for the most part seems to dictate that his decision will see him return for a 22nd NFL season.

Rodgers is set to visit the Steelers today and throughout the weekend, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. The insider added that the four-time NFL MVP is likely to play for Pittsburgh in 2026, but there is no deal in place. Both sides are taking steps towards that resolution and nothing is final until the ink dries.

Pittsburgh 93.7 The Fan’s Dorin Dickerson and Adam Crowley first reported the news Thursday morning of Rodgers’ visit and expected signing.

This news arrives just over a week after Steelers owner, Art Rooney II, told the NFL Network that he expected a decision on Rodgers soon.

“We’ve been in contact with Aaron on a regular basis,” Rooney told NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero and Judy Battista on April 29. “He’s been keeping us up to date on his plans. Even though I thought it probably would have been concluded by now, I think we will come to a conclusion here in the next few weeks.”

The owner previously expected a decision before the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh wound up drafting Penn State quarterback Drew Allar in the third round to add another quarterback to a room that already includes Mason Rudolph and Will Howard.

On April 28, the Steelers elected to place a seldom-used unrestricted free agent tender on the quarterback. It’s a move that ensures the team would receive a compensatory draft pick if Rodgers signed with another team.

“The main thing that the tender gives us is the potential for a comp pick if Aaron would choose to go to another team,” Rooney said. “We don’t expect that, but by the same token, you never know. It’s just something that we had an opportunity to protect if needed. The deadline was Monday so if we were gonna do it, we had to pull the trigger on Monday. We alerted Aaron and his representative that we were going to do it so not a real big deal, but something in the unlikely event that he goes somewhere else, we are eligible for a comp pick in that situation.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
