Ox roast served

The Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1028 Penn St., Hollidaysburg, will hold an ox roast drive-thru from 4 to 6 p.m. (or sold out) Thursday, May 14. The $12 meal includes an ox roast sandwich, homemade gob, chips and a drink. Proceeds support the goal of improved accessibility to the church. Call 814-695-0072 for more information.

Clothing giveaway planned

Grace’s Closet at Grace Lutheran Church, 1114 N. Cambria St., Bellwood, will host a clothing giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9. Spring and summer clothing is available. Masks are optional. For more information, call the church at 814-742-7501 or 814-742-7416.

Plant swap, yard sale set

Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a plant swap and yard sale Saturday, May 16. The yard sale will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer a wide variety of items for shoppers of all ages.

The plant swap will take place from 9 a.m. to noon or while supplies last. The swap offers the opportunity for both seasoned gardeners and beginners to share and exchange plants, cuttings, seeds and garden extras. Attendees are encouraged to bring healthy plants to share, flowerpots or gardening tools to help everyone grow their gardens while building community connections.

Tables are available to rent for those who would like to participate in the yard sale. The cost is $10 for DELC members and $20 for non-members.

While admission is free, donations to the church’s Pet Pantry will be accepted, helping the church’s mission to help care for pets in the community.

Refreshments will be available for guests.

Radioisotope dating discussed

“Is Genesis History?” video discussion series will continue May 10 at Faith Baptist Church, 647 Valley Vista Drive, State College. The discussion will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the topic of “Radioisotope Dating: Its assumptions, methods and implications.” Contradictory results lead to questioning the validity of the dating methods. Geologist Andrew Snelling will give the video presentation followed by a panel discussion.

Light refreshments will be offered after the program and materials related to the subject of Creation vs Evolution will be available for a donation.

Yard sale planned

Fields of Harvest Fellowship, 3620 Fifth Ave., Altoona, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 8-9. There will be household items, decorations, purses, jewelry and more. The youth group will be offering lunch items for sale.

Community lunch offered

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church’s community lunch will be held at noon Wednesday, May 13, in the fellowship hall at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1407 Eighth Ave., down the street from St Luke’s. The meal is free; donations accepted. The menu this month includes meat loaf, mashed potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, appetizers and dessert.

Calvary Boys in concert

The Calvary Boys of West Decatur will present a concert at Jaggard First United Methodist Church, 1801 Pleasant Valley Blvd., at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 17. The Calvary Boys are a Gospel Group that sings the older songs of faith.

Campus of Prayer is May 16

A Regional Campus of Prayer will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Registration starts at 8 a.m. This event will equip, mentor and train people to reach a lost world through a revived church, and a revived church is a praying church. Tools will be provided through inspired teaching, Christ-encountering worship and prayer that participants can take back to their churches, communities and workplace to build upper rooms of prayer. If you have been asking along with Jesus’ disciples, “Lord, teach us to pray!” this event is for you.

Cost is $20/person; $25/couple; $10 for those 18 and younger. Each participant will receive a workbook and lunch.

The Well hosts game, craft day

All kids pre-K through 5th grade are invited for pizza, games and crafts from 4 to 6 p.m. May 16 at The Well Ministry Center. Breathing in Christ author featured

ECLA Deacon Marsha Roscoe, spiritual director, coach and author of “Breathing in Christ: Experiencing Jesus in an Exhausting World,” will lead a guided, grace-filled morning designed to help participants slow down, reconnect and rediscover a more life-giving rhythm.

The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 30, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 850 Snydertown Road, Howard.

Roscoe serves as assistant to the bishop in the Lower Susquehanna Synod of the ELCA, where she leads initiatives in spiritual wellness, leadership development and communications. She is the founder of Breathing in Christ, a ministry devoted to helping people reconnect with God, themselves and their daily lives through simple, Christ-centered practices.

With more than 20 years of ministry experience, she brings an accessible and pastoral approach to faith and wellbeing, guiding others from exhaustion toward wholeness, one small, grace-filled step at a time.

Food pantry available

The food pantry at Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, is available for those in need. Distribution will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Fridays, May 15 and May 29, by appointment only. Call Deb at 814-207-8293.

Bible studies planned

Bible studies will be held at 6 p.m. Thursdays in the parlor at the Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville. The schedule includes: May 14 – John 17:1-11: An instrument of wisdom; May 21 – John 7:37-39: Be open to the spirit; and May 28 – Matthew 28:16-20: Go, baptize and teach. All are welcome.

Movie night

“The Encounter” will be shown Friday, May 15, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, Altoona. Snacks will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by the movie at 7 p.m. “The Encounter” features five strangers who are marooned in a deserted roadside diner and encounter a man who knows all of their secrets and can fix all of their problems if they trust in him.

Free lunch offered

Hot dogs, baked beans and dessert are on the menu Saturday, May 9, at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue. The free meal is open to everyone and available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Chicken barbecue available

Tickets for a chicken barbecue are available from the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue.

The meal will be available for pickup from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at the church.

The meal is $12 and includes half a chicken, two sides and a dinner roll. For tickets, call Deb at 814-207-8293. Deadline to order May 10. Depending on orders, some extra dinners may be available on the day of the sale.

Picnics in the park

The Well Ministry Center is sponsoring Picnics in the Park at Grove Memorial Park, 23rd Street and Sixth Ave., every Tuesday.

A meal will be served at 5:15 p.m., followed by games, crafts and a short message of hope. The whole family is welcome. Rain or shine. The Well is located at 605 Burns Ave., Altoona.
