Blair rugby team wins big

The Blair United boys rugby team defeated the Hempfield Knightmares, 40-5 to improve to 4-0 in conference play.

It was the first win ever for Blair United against Hempfield.

The locals got scoring tries from Tyler Rodgers, Blake Kennedy (on a 40-meter scramble) and M.J. Flaugh got a conversion for a 12-0 lead. With 10 minutes left before halftime, Lucas Darnell ran over three would-be tacklers for a try, followed by another Flaugh conversion, which made it 19-0 at the break.

Blair United continued its scoring in the second half with Darnell and Rodgers each scoring a try and Joey Richardson tacking on two more. Flaugh was 2-of-4 in conversions en route to the final score.

Chase Focht and Cayden Gragor were both voted man of the match.

United is now eligible for the playoffs, which begin on Sunday, May 3, with a win against State College this Sunday at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. on April 26.
