Area digest
JOHNSTOWN — A championship bout for a hometown fighter will headline a night of professional boxing in Johnstown next month, as Rumble by the River comes to the Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center on Saturday, June 21.
The night will feature a full card of pro fights showcasing local and regional talent. The main event will see Johnstown’s own “Trigger” Tre’Sean Wiggins take on Dakota “Lone Wolf” Linger of West Virginia, with the WBA/NABA GOLD Welterweight championship on the line.
Wiggins, currently the world’s 12th-ranked welterweight, is 16-5-3 and has won his last five fights. The 35-year-old fighter trains out of Johnstown’s Kastle Boxing and holds camp at Lincolnway Boxing in York.
“Tre’Sean is a slick southpaw and a fan favorite,” said manager Brock Kull. “The opportunity to fight for a title in front of his hometown fans is something we’re very excited about.”
The undercard will feature several rising local and regional talents fighting under the Kastle Boxing banner, including the pro debut for Altoona’s Brandon “The Body” Watkins, and undefeated Jerome “The Thoroughbred” Baxter, of Pittsburgh. Lauren Michaels, of Altoona, will also step into the ring, looking to continue her climb through the ranks of women’s boxing.
The first bell begins at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m. Tickets go on sale today at Ticketmaster.com, starting at $68.80, including fees for reserved seats or $50.05 for general admission standing-room tickets. Tickets are also available with reduced fees at the 1st Summit Arena box office.
A slate of amateur fights sanctioned by USA Boxing is scheduled for earlier in the day, with fights starting at 2 p.m. and doors opening at 1 p.m. Tickets for the amateur fights only are available exclusively at the arena box office starting at $30.
