Kira Trexler, a standout soccer player for the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2006G youth futsal team, made waves at the United Futsal National Showcase and the international World Championship held in Orlando, Florida.

Trexler played center defender, a crucial role in the Rowdies’ success, helping the team secure five wins, three losses and three ties through the 11-game back-to-back tournaments.

The Rowdies are a professional US soccer club in the United Soccer League with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Trexler’s performance was highlighted by a stunning hat trick in game 4 of the Showcase.

“Kira has a very positive attitude, good quality with both feet, good technique in dribbling and is super strong physically. She was an important part of the Tampa Bay Rowdies team at United Futsal Nationals Showcase and World Championship,” said Guilherme dos Santos, Rowdies coach.

Marcelo Antonelli, founder of Soccer Powered By Futsal, who is responsible for integrating futsal into Orlando City FC Academy program, was also impressed with Trexler.

“Kira’s play was impressive with the size of her technical skills and physical abilities,” he said. “She is really tactically intelligent knowing when to provide defensive balance yet when to create overloads and find different ways to unbalance the opponent.”

Central High School coach Randy Trexler, who coaches his daughter during the scholastic season, knows how valuable an experience this has been for her.

“Kira just demonstrated she can play with the best futsal players in the country. Her level of ball control, efficiency and ability to read the game was as good as any player there,” he said.

The Champions Cup Series is a premier global Futsal championship bringing together 32 clubs from around the US to compete for a chance to represent the US at the World Futsal Cup. The Rowdies achieved an impressive third-place finish in both the United Futsal Nationals Showcase and the World Championship.
