Eric Liu will meet William Liu in an all-State College championship match after the two advanced to the District 4-6 Class 3A boys tennis finals Tuesday at Mansion Park.

Eric Liu, the No. 5 seed coming into the tournament, upset Altoona’s Dylan Batrus, 6-0, 6-3, in the quarterfinals before knocking off second-seeded Garrett Bouchard of Hollidaysburg, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, in the semifinals.

Top-seeded William Liu knocked off Hollidaysburg’s Felix Xu, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinals before beating Altoona’s Owen Wasovich, 6-0, 6-0, in the semifinals.

Xu, Wasovich and Batrus won matches in the Round of 16.

Wasovich topped Mifflin County’s Aiden Newlen, and Bouchard beat Central Mountain’s Joey McCluskey in the quarterfinals.

Golden Eagles soar

TYRONE — The Tyrone boys tennis team swept the doubles competition to beat Windber, 3-2, on the Golden Eagles’ senior night.

Caden Harris, one of those seniors, won at No. 2 singles for Tyrone.

Another, Tyke Beck, teamed with Will Mengel to win at No. 1 doubles. Trey Brodzina and Jackson Murphy won at No. 2 doubles.

Senior Julian Fisher, who played at No. 3 singles, was also honored.

Altoona swept

State College swept Altoona, 23-23, 25-23, 25-17, in high school boys volleyball play at the AAHS Fieldhouse.

Caleb Terza had a team-high seven service points, six kills, 12 assists, six digs, two aces and a block for the Mountain Lions.

Ayden Shuma added seven kills, and Colson Greenleaf finished with a team-high 11 digs.
