Kermit Gustaf Seaberg

Kermit G. Seaberg, 91, Altoona, passed away Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Gustave Robert and Iva (Taylor) Seaberg. On Nov. 5, 1947, he married Beatrice Joy Youtzy at Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years; two daughters: Karen G. Callis and husband, Jim, with whom he resided, and Joy A. Phillips, all of Altoona; three grandchildren: Amy Havens (Bill) of Ellettsville, Ind., Brian Biem (Colleen) of Tyrone and Mark Biem of Altoona; three great-grandchildren: Luke and Noah Havens and Alex Biem; and many nephews and nieces.
He was the last of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by two grandsons: Kristopher G. Conway and Stanley Biem; a sister, Verna Lofstrom; and four brothers: Melvin, Ivan, Orvis and Bruce Seaberg.
Kermit was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal in the Pacific during WWII, where he received several medals. He attended Penn State University. He worked for United Fruit Dispatch. He retired from Crane Co., Duncansville, and later worked for a year for Champion Homes.
He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata. He enjoyed card games, hunting, reading about history and storytelling. He loved animals.
Friends will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 408 Sixth St., Juniata, immediately followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., Pastor Kathy Colebank officiating.
